Mark Waters

Atlantic Police Officer Mark Waters was fatally shot on May 26th, 1979. Officer Waters was a young policeman who had a desire to help the youth in the community. Officer Waters had taken in a troubled youth who had been kicked out of his home. One day the young man who Officer Waters was looking after picked up his duty weapon. The weapon was emptied and the young man continued to examine it. While talking to Officer Waters the young man jokingly pointed the weapon at Waters and pulled the trigger. A single round had not come out of the gun when unloaded. Officer Waters was shot and later died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha Nebraska. Mark's memory lives on though he is greatly missed.

Rick McClain

Atlantic Police Officer Rick McClain died on December 31st, 1988. He was on vacation in Colorado with his wife Penny and their two children. Officer McClain was skiing with his family when he suffered a heart attack. Officer McClain died at the young age of 35. Rick's untimely death was a loss to the entire community.
